I am a corporate Wh*re

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Oh dear, and to be frank this post isn’t going to make things any better. I was playing arround on the website Wordle, which generates a tag cloud from any text. I ran my blog through the program, and company names seem to dominate somewhat. I’m not quite sure how MOO became so prominent, I’m [...]

A little slice of fortress life

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

I recently upgrade my computer, and yet since then I have been almost entirely addicted to the ASCII game Dwarf Fortress. My 8800GT weeps with boredom, yet my processor still seems to get a fair work out due to the sheer ammount of detail involved. I’ll speak more on the game properly later, but I [...]

James Glover No.1

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

For ages I was hovering midway down Google for searches for James Glover both in quotes and out. But today I’m at the top of the first page, and am also in second position. I don’t know how long this will last, as I’ve been here once or twice before, but I will enjoy it [...]

The slightly imposing size of the system sat on its trolley obviously impressed a young me, yet what surprised me even more was seeing the system in operation. I was fascinated, and immediately decided it was [...]

I demand DOI’s!

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

DOI stands for Digital Object Identifier, and in short is a permanent ‘address’ (like a URL) which will always point at a particular document. In particular DOI’s are used to make it easy to find academic papers, and saves one having to find the journal’s webpage, navigate to its archives, pick up the volume in [...]

What are Plasmids?

Friday, August 24th, 2007

Today sees the European release of the game Bioshock, an FPS which has been receiving plaudits and review scores which are truly astounding, with Metacritic reporting aggregate review scores of 96/97% for the PC and XBOX360 versions respectively. I don’t normally play FPSs, but I’m sorely tempted by what is clearly an astounding game.

A few hours!? But, but… that means I’ll actually have to work!

Blocked IP

Sunday, June 17th, 2007

Due to excessive comment spam from a particular IP address (81.95.146.227) I have since blocked this IP from accessing my servers and have also contacted their host. Fortunately this appears to be a server, rather than a zombie system, so I don’t think I’ve blocked any genuine users.
