Blog Redesign Launched

I’ve gone ahead and pushed out the blog redesign. I expect there will be a few teething issues, especially with elements which it wasn’t easy to test in either the mock-ups, or using WordPress’ preview function. It is just these kind of situations when running a local server would be useful.

I also intend to try and improve some of the shortcomings of the theme over the next few weeks, and add a few functions. For example, as it stands the site looks somewhat less exciting in Internet Explorer than in most other browsers. I haven’t even dared test it in IE6 yet, partly because I don’t even have access to a copy. With WordPress 3.0 launching soon I imagine I will also try and adapt the theme to take advantage of any improvements made.

I’m sorry that I haven’t been blogging recently, but unfortunately life is currently somewhat busy. I’m in the final three months of my PhD, and stress levels are rising. This has not been helped by having to arrange a move, as I’ll have to leave my current flat at the end of July. In Edinburgh this is somewhat difficult, as it means finding a place in the middle of festival season, somewhat complicated further by my requirement for a short term let.
I don’t mean to pretend that I’ve had no time for kicking back, but unfortunately it has meant that I’ve wanted by free time to be somewhat less productive than composing blog entries. Of course, I’m sure I’ll more than make up for this when I come to write my thesis, and blogging and twitter suddenly feel like huge distractions.

Under Renovation

Please excuse any temporary glitches with the website. It is currently undergoing a period of renovation as I migrate all my content into the blog system. This will be accompanied with a minor redesign to take into account the new organisation. While this takes place there are likely to be a few minor issues with the functioning of the website as I have no access to an alternative web-server for testing.

I apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Blocked IP

Due to excessive comment spam from a particular IP address (81.95.146.227) I have since blocked this IP from accessing my servers and have also contacted their host. Fortunately this appears to be a server, rather than a zombie system, so I don’t think I’ve blocked any genuine users.

Opera software have released Opera mini, which allows web access on my brick of a 3510i. Am testing my blog.

Edited to add: Well it worked, but its a little clumsy. I can’t imagine I’ll be writing long posts on a phone keypad.

New Servers

Well my year is up on my old servers so I’ve shifted to a new host. Hopefully it shouldn’t have too great an impact but it may mean that things are a little bumpy for a few days. I have also taken to import the old Blogger posts, and will get arround to the others eventually.

Site troubles

I appear to be having slight troubles with downloading of exe files. I am currently looking into this problem and it shall be addressed shortly.

ETA: I have contact my host and am waiting to hear from them.

EETA: I managed to find out a work-around my end, so all is now working. It seems that the webserver was trying to run the exes rather than deliver them.
